Our vision is that we would be making disciple-making disciples, that is to say that those we teach, train or disciple would then pass on what they have learnt from us to others after them.
Through evangelism and discipleship, our heart is to help people discover their identity in Christ and to live more like Jesus; to identify their unique gifts and to understand their God given purpose in life, be that locally or cross-culturally.
THE NEED FOR DISCIPLESHIP
It is no secret that in many churches today, discipleship is not truly an active part of church life, it is something that is becoming more and more evident to us. Going to Church, even being in a home group or Bible study group, does not always mean that your relationship with God develops or that you are encouraged to fulfil your potential in Christ, by becoming like Him and doing His works.
If we read Ephesians 4:13-16 we find a good description of what it means to be a disciple. There are four very important points that come out of this;
That each believer becomes mature in Christ (v13);
That they will not be shaken, but hold true to the teachings of the bible (v14);
That they will grow in truth and love to become more like Jesus (v15);
So that they would reproduce disciples and grow the church (v16)
WHAT WE DO
For the present time God has called us to France where we are a part of a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) team in St Hippolyte du Fort.
YWAM is an international volunteer movement of Christians from many backgrounds, cultures and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world, with the purpose to 'Know God and to make Him known'. All of YWAM's ministries fall into one of three catagories; Evangelism, Training, Mercy ministry.
Since 2010 we've been involved with the Discipleship Training School (DTS) which is a bilingual school (French/English) and we have had staff and students from around the world including Germany, Poland, USA, Switzerland, Canada, France, England and Australia!
The DTS is designed to help you understand and know God more deeply, live more like Jesus and identify your unique gifts and to begin to understand your God given purpose in missions, be that locally or cross culturally. The DTS is an intensive, residential training course which begins with an 11 or 12 week classroom phase, followed by an 8-12 week outreach. The DTS emphasizes cross-cultural exposure and global awareness, preparing students to answer the call to "Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations" Matthew 28:19. The DTS is also the foundation school of YWAM, through which more specialised schools are entered.
Mark is also the founder and managing director of Fountain of Life, a UK based charity whose mission is to bring sustainable safe drinking water, improved hygiene and sanitation to those who have access to only unimproved facilities through appropriate technologies and education. Focusing mainly but not exclusively on Sub-Saharan West Africa, Fountain of Life currently has projects underway in Senegal.
